MatchMyVehicle is designed around a simple idea: your car research is your business. This page explains, in plain language, what information is and isn't involved when you use this site.

What we don't collect

MatchMyVehicle has no user accounts, no sign-ups, and no database of visitor information. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or location. We do not see or store the cars you research, the VINs you decode, or the vehicles you add to your comparison garage.

Your comparison garage stays on your device

Cars you add to the comparison garage are saved using your own browser's local storage, on your own device. That data never leaves your browser and is never transmitted to us. Clearing your browser data will erase it, and it is not visible to other people or other devices.

VIN decoding and recall checks

When you decode a VIN or check recalls, your browser sends that request directly to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a government agency that operates these public databases. The request goes from your browser to NHTSA — not through our servers. NHTSA's own privacy practices are described at nhtsa.gov.

Links to other websites

MatchMyVehicle links out to third-party marketplaces, dealerships, and vehicle-history services. Once you leave this site, those sites' own privacy policies apply. We encourage you to review them. Some outbound links may be affiliate links, as described in our Affiliate Disclosure.

Hosting and basic technical logs

This site is served by a web hosting provider. Like virtually all web hosts, it may automatically log standard technical information (such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested) for security and operational purposes. We do not use these logs to identify or profile visitors.

Cookies, analytics, and advertising

MatchMyVehicle itself does not set tracking cookies. If we add analytics or display advertising in the future (for example, Google AdSense), those services may use cookies or similar technologies, and this policy will be updated to describe them before or at the time they are introduced.

The "Add to MatchMyVehicle" bookmarklet

The optional bookmarklet runs only in your own browser, only when you click it, on the page you are viewing. It reads vehicle details from that page and hands them to your MatchMyVehicle garage on your device. It does not run in the background, does not monitor your browsing, and does not send anything to us.

Children's privacy

MatchMyVehicle is intended for people researching vehicle purchases and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to this policy

If our practices change — for example, when advertising or analytics are added — we will update this page and revise the effective date above.
